Join indigenous artist Helena Geiger who will introduce you to the beautiful ancient art of Batik – an artform that has been practiced for centuries in many parts of the world. Helena will take you on a journey to discover how truly unique and meditative this art form is.
In this workshop you will learn how to use traditional canting and brushes to draw designs onto fabric with hot wax and then learn how to apply and prepare fibre reactive dyes to create wonderful designs of motifs and colours.
You will take home a gorgeous Batik hand painted silk scarf as well as batik cotton fabric to frame or sew in any creative sewing project. No experience is necessary and all materials are provided, along with delicious morning and afternoon teas.
With over 20 years experience, Helena creates unique designs merging her Indigenous culture with Batik techniques to create contemporary textiles for fabrics, furnishings and fashion.
Make sure you wear old clothing or an apron.
