Happy holidays!

The Christmas season is finally upon us! Even though we are proceeding with caution, I am sure that we are all welcoming the festive season after a challenging 2020. The recent Covid cluster on the Northern Beaches is a telltale sign that we must remain vigilant with social distancing and good hygiene and mask wearing where necessary.

We have been busy here at Kiama Art Workshops working on our 2021 schedule - it's been an exciting time organising new classes and the return of our regular ones. Looking for a gift for someone that has everything or something last minute? Why not give the gift of an art experience? You can gift a workshop, or choose from one of our gift cards.

For lovers of textiles, we are kickstarting 2021 with the return of the lovely Michele Elliot and her Soft Drawing weekend workshop on 27th and 28th February. This class will focus on basic hand stitching, experimental embroidery techniques using thread for mark making. Perfect for beginners and experienced alike, join Michele for a relaxing weekend of slow stitching down by the Kiama harbour.

Laura Bright is returning on 13th March for her Alcohol Inks workshop. This class is proving to be very popular so book early if you are interested. Its a fun day, and you don't need any artistic ability to enjoy letting the ink do its thing for this one!

We are very excited to have Hettie Rowley back to teach a new weekend workshop Portraits in Watercolours. Hettie is an amazing teacher who brings out fantastic results in all of her students. In this class you will learn the basic elements and painting techniques to achieve a good likeness to your chosen subject, and also how to capture the essence of the person you are painting. This workshop is perfect for those who have attended Hettie's classes previously, and is also suitable for beginners to experienced.

We have a new workshop for nature lovers on 1st May with Bird Illustration. Peter Marsack will be taking this class. Peter is a biologist and a brilliant artist/illustrator who works with gouche to produce beautiful illustrations - he is a multi prize winner and recently contributed many of his works to the Australian Bird Guide published by CSIRO. He certainly knows his stuff and is an all round nice guy! He will teach you how to look at and capture a bird's form and structure with the aim being to produce a finished illustration to take home at the end of the day. Peter will also show you work to inspire you to continue to develop your illustrations skills once you finish the class.

See our website for workshops planned for later in the year including Shibori, Silver Jewellery, Watercolour Compositions with more being added all the time. For those enrolled in Megan Seres' Turneresque or Flowers in Oils workshops, we are working on new dates and will let you know as soon as available.

Wishing you a happy holiday season, hoping you spend quality time with friends and family. Spare a thought for those who may struggle at this time of year, and lots of empathy for those who will be in lockdown or away from loved ones. We are thinking of you all!

Stay safe, relax and enjoy some down time and lets hope the New Year brings good health, lots of happiness, and fresh new beginnings!
